Default I also saw this oxygenator device

Has anyone on this board used this device? Does it work? They make a larger version for up to 29 gallons of water. I found it for $69.99 on a website. Most want $99 for it. This smaller one for up to five gallons is around $45.

Hope to try it out tomorrow. That screen is a good idea. I hadn't thought about scales and stuff clogging up the intake. I didn't realize it had that much pressure either. Thanks for the pictures and the link. I will definately post something when I get time to hook mine up and see what I can come up with.

So now, I'm thinking of getting it and somehow stepping down 12V to 6V (4 D cells is 6 volt, I think). I could always use one of those "selectable voltage" adapters from Radio Shack and splice it into the battery wires.

....................................http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal.............this is the one that I use ,works good ...i use 5 gal round igloo cooler for minnows with 16oz frozen water to keep h2o cool and pump to air bait....you can drill hole in any cooler for air hose and 3m-5200 hole to" re-seal"...in my case I drilled hole in removable top...no sealing need... .........also you can buy 110v pump at wal-world for $10-30 for keeping minnows at home or anyplace you have 110v....hope some of this helps...

I bought one of those 20 gallon jobs from Bass Pro for keeping Herring. Of course all the guys at the bait shop see it and tell me it won't work. It does, and very well actually. I keep more bait than recommended, with very few dying, and herring are dang hard to keep alive. They run about $170, but they are great. I haven't used it yet for crappie minnows, but I know it will work well. And it is super quiet. I use the shad keep for the herring, but that should work for minnows, and it may sound funny, but I use a little aquarium salt or kosher salt, maybe a 1/4 cup for 18 gallons, it helps the air disperse better. I think most of the granuals for bait tanks already have salt in them. I am thinking about using a larger bilge pump for more oxygen to keep the bait frisky.

I also need to get back into crappie fishing on Allatoona, so if anyone wants to go out in my boat so they can show me the ropes..again. That would be great. I am looking for a fishing partner. I have pretty much everything for crappie fishing and I live 5 minutes from the lake. I also have a 21 ft. aluminum boat, so there is pleny of space.

    Hey mk1br,

I have fished Allatoona several times this year for crappie. I have put out some crappie condos and I plan on putting out several more. I don't fish much during the day right now, but I have had a few good night stalks. I put in a Little River and usually stay on the upper end of the lake. I've been wanting to fish further down, especially the kellog creek area, but man at the boat traffic. I think I will stear clear until it cools off. I fish out of a 17' bass tracker. We might setup a crappie trip in trade for a striper trip. I have been interested in striper fishing for a while, but I crappie fishing when get a chance to get on the water. It would be nice to go with someone who knows the ropes on the local lake. I too live minutes from the lake. PM me if your interested.

Well I finally got around to hooking up the pump and spray bar I bought a while back from BPS. Didn't like how it fit in the cube style cooler. Went with regular style Coleman. Didn't like having to put hole in cooler to mount pump but used a little clear silcone and one screw in center slot on the back of the pump. Used adhesive strip on back of spray bar clamp. Seems to have stuck pretty good. Filled cooler up before mounting to see how much pressure from spay bar. Not bad. Should work out fine. Keep few of those frozen water bottles handy. Wish I had done this sooner. I hate to go fishing and end up with only 3-4 fish on ice when I could have let them go to grow some more. But you don't know what you'll catch till your done!

This is the one I used. Hope you can open the link.

if you put a valve on the tubing, you can control the water pressure from just a drip to full force.. its a necessity to control the pressure to keep it from being too much. in my striper bait tank, i have one pump, that pumps water to the aerator and to the filter. after i split the line, i put a valve on each line and can control the pressure to each outlet to get the water pressure where i want it on each line. the filter requires less pressure than the aerator does. keeping the bait cool, but not cold is a necessity. where i get my ice, i can get a 16 lb bag for $2.50 and on my night trips i use the ice to keep the water cool. i wouldnt put the ice directly in the water. instead i use a gallon size zip loc bag and refresh the bag occasionaly as the ice melts and it does a great job of keeping the 24 gallon tank cool. you dont wanna make the water cold, but cool to keep from shocking the bait when you drop the hook in the water.

The cooler/livewell worked great. With the frozen bottles the water temp was good and the pump/spray bar I used was just right. I didn't put any minnows in it, just fish I caught. I will try that screen before I put minnows or any small bait in it. When I figure out how to put pic's on here I will. Only problem I see is I need a bigger boat. The extra weight from the water made a noticeable difference with two people in the boat.
