I have never been to West Point but my in laws said lets do a trip rather than presents for Christmas. We are headed up the week before Christmas and staying at Great Wolf lodge so the kids can play in the park.
Had a four day weekend and decided the hit the Big Pond to see what the fish were doing and also to search for new areas. The cold front affected the fish and were deeper than I had anticipated and they were still 20-25’ down in flooded timber. They were easy to mark on the Helix SI due to the size of it. Drop a Shad color or white/chartreuse jig in them and wait for the thump. They’ll scatter after a few of the brothers n sisters are caught but be patient and they’ll return in a few minutes. One thing I did notice was the effect of boat traffic on the fish. With the presence of more boats on Sat/Sun, the fish were easily spooked and tight lipped when it got busy. So go early and fill the livewell. I did keep 21 over 10” on Sunday and can’t even state how many touched the boat over 4 days. Fill the Freezer Tour 2022 continues! Tightlines to All and See Ya on the Water!
