Default Flint River Flood 1994 - Lake Blackshear

I ran across an old video I made in 1994. It shows a bit of the flood waters from the 1994 Flint River flooding. You can kinda see the water running backwards up Swift Creek and over Smoaks Bridge. And also see the Lake Blackshear dam with flood waters at the same level on both sides. The dam was broken and the lake drained down to the river channel after this.

The video here is not nearly as good as the original I have. It starts out pretty bad... but gets a little better. I'll have to figure how to clean it up. This is only a couple of minutes of the trip we made from Montezuma all the way to Albany and back.

Thanks Joe for sharing this video. I was flying a lot during this flood but never carried a camera. It seems that without pictures we just can't tell those that were not witness to an event, the real magnitude of the happening. It's like looking at the Grand Canyon and trying to tell someone about it. You just can't do it.
    Thanks again.

I also want to thank you for sharing that video with us. I helped with the Red Cross during the flood. My younger brother helped recover the victims from Sumter county. Thanks again.

    Thanks guys. Ragfly...Which brother? Dale?

I've also got a stack of aerial photos of the lakebed after Lake Blackshear drained. I scan a few of them at a time into my computer whenever I get a chance.

I know what you mean Smitty....if I'd only know then what I know now???? My dad and actually fished the lake once before the fixed the dam...sure wish I had the foresight to have taken pictures but I was young and dumb at the time...now I just feel dumb most of the time when it comes to fishing Blackshear..

Not sure how much these pictures would help. There is a bunch of them. I am scanning them when I get a chance. They're a good bit clearer than this shows. This is the area around the 280 bridge. Looking north. Even in this lower resolution you can spot holes, logs and stumps from the original scan.
