    Default New PB crappie!

Caught this big ol' slab last week on a gray ghost hand-tied jig, at Lathem reservoir. 2.47 lbs, over 16". Caught 3 over 2 lbs that day (all released - I only keep crappie if between 11 and 14 inches). Spring is nearly here, and the big slabs are biting. Hard to go to Lanier when this little lake near my house produces some big fish, including some big shellcrackers - my favorite. Unfortunately, the lake isn't open early or late, only 8-5 until April, then 8-8. Electric-only, all bass must be released, state limits for other fish.

Thanks, guys. I have to mention that two days before this trip, I went there under bluebird skies and high pressure, and I could not find a single crappie, much less one that would bite. This time, the clouds rolled in before a front, barometer was falling, and it was a very different, and very good day. The lake is deep, 90 feet in the middle, with no docks to shoot (sorry, Jack ), and it can be tough finding the fish, but when I go there, I catch the biggest slabs ever.

I have to thank @ultraslab for lending me his old beater jon boat to set up electric-only for this lake. Only took about 4 grand: Minn Kota with iPilot, Garmin 93 UHD with PLS, and batteries! All that and I still get skunked sometimes! Money can't buy fish, no.
