    Default Battery questions

I just changed to 24v trolling motor. Do I need a stand alone battery for the outboard or can I just use 12v off of one of the 24v system? What about the Lawrence HDS, can I run it with the trolling motor battery also or will it cause interference?
    All opinions/advise is welcome.

I would have a starter battery for your motor and to run your electronics. You might get interference on your electronics running it off your TM batteries. I suppose you could use your TM batteries for cranking (I have for emergencies, when the cranking battery died), but I would not for long term use. Some good detailed info here...Cranking Battery vs. Deep Cycle Marine Battery

I had one depth finder that started having interference from the trolling motor so I hooked the finder to cranking battery.

The short of it is, you need 3 batteries.

X3 on three batteries....One for the outboard and other stuff on the boat. Two just for your 24volt TM
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

3 for me as well. Reason for me is if I troll down my two, I want a third to get the gas turned over and back home.

Definitely 3! I rowed home a few times before I changed my setup around. NOT FUN!
Fishing is like pizza.......Even when it's not that good, it's still pretty good!

You need 3 for sure. If one dies on the water you aint kaput! You can still fish and THEN still be able to crank your motor. It's still a pain though, depending on where your batt storage is.
