Cool Lanier 12/30/17 "skunked" & personal best (same day)

Decided to beat the deep freeze polar express and tried my luck on the south end of Lanier today.
Got on the water about 8 and headed over to Baldridge.

Not a single crappie, but BAM! Largest fresh water fish I've ever caught... A striper weighing 8.81#'s is sure enough fun on a 10' ACC pole with 6# test line! The drag on that Shimano spinning reel sure got a workout...

I'd like to have had a picture of it, but I left my phone on the bottom of Lake Smith in Alabama on Christmas day, and haven't gotten it replaced yet.
Thanks RiverKritter thanked you for this post

Wow! Bad luck on the crappie an even more bad luck on the phone! Glad something worked out for you on the record striper. We'll forgive you this time but be sure to get the phone replaced so we see the picture next time.

Were you trolling? Did you see fish on your sonar?

Not trolling. No fish on docks, too windy to stay on them in the open...

A friend and I went yesterday. Long lined in the back of 4-mile and only caught 2 kitties. Back to Allatoona. It will be Feb/March before I try Lanier again.
Fishing is like pizza.......Even when it's not that good, it's still pretty good!
