I been crankin last couple weeks, gonna see if they will eat some minners in the AM.
But I can do without the snakes!!!
Jim and I fished Lake Oconee until about 1:30 today. We pushed minnows and jigs and kept 4 fish. The bite for us was SLOW! Painfully SLOW! We marked lots of fish on the timber but they weren't liking what we were doing. In the past we have done well pushing minnows in August but I guess we are out of practice.
I tried out my new TM today for the first time. It is a Minn-Kota Terrova 80 lb thrust with Ipilot. It worked great. At supper tonight my wife asked me what I liked the most about the new TM. I told her the LCD Remote that displays the mode you are in such as cruise, spot lock, auto pilot, target speed, and the actual speed. It also has a Rabbit function which can get you out of trouble or in trouble in a hurry. So far so good.
On our trip home this afternoon we spotted a 4 foot timber rattler dead in the road. We were in Putnam County at the time about 2 miles from Green Glades Dairy on Glades Road. Be careful out there!
Beautiful snake!! I wouldn't eat one roadkilled unless I saw it hit but it is a shame to see one go to waste. Tastes like froglegs.
I haven't been on Oconee since the early 80s but still remember slamming black crappie swinging minnows with a slip bobber to visible structure along the banks. This was right after it was filled.
I missed the opportunity of a lifetime by not buying a 1 acre lot there that ended up being deep waterfront. A contractor who worked in our plant divided up his family farm into lots. When I looked at it, they were just starting to clear along the river. I could have bought the lot for $5000. $5000 then was like $50,000 now and I had to pass it up. That could have been my retirement nest egg.
