    Default Shaft length

I know this question has been brought up before. I've recently purchased a new Bracewell boat. STICK STEERING! KEEP THAT IN MIND. Ive always long lined using foot controlled. I'm fixing to pull the trigger on a I-Pilot. My question is what length shaft. I have been measuring all evening. 45 or 54? I'm scared 45 won't be long enough but 54 will be long . Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The extra lenght shouldn't bother ya longlining with a 54...better to let it up some than to need it in rough water and not have enough

I'm just worried about it when it's put up. Kinda worried the 54 hitting my control box

Without seeing your boat I would imagine the 45" shaft is what you need. Check out this link as it explains measurements needed to determine shaft length.

Mine is a 48 it works fine. The only problem with the long shafts is storage when it is out of the water. That 55 inch shafts is a lot in the way on top of the boat. Lol

I just installed a 54 inch shaft on a Bass Tracker Panfish 17 this past weekend with no problems at all with it interfering with the controls, BUT his boat has a lot of room on the front with a large deck area. Like Hotwater said, its hard to say without seeing the boat. I thought 48 was the shortest shaft they had and that would probably work out just fine. Or if you are still worried that it will not be long enough, get the 54 and cut off what you don't need. It's easy to do and does not void the warranty...Or at least that is what Minn Kota told me 3-4 years ago when I cut my 60 inch shaft down to 50 something. Just make sure that the shaft will be long enough so the motor doesn't come out of the water if it gets a little rough or windy. Either way, you'll love getting away from the cable drive trolling motor you are using now!!! Minn Kota is the way to go for long line trolling!!

The length you want is the one that is on sale somewhere. I had a 48" on my War Eagle because the 54" would have been in the way of my stick steering.
