nice fish
Well, I was trying to catch crappie on jigs around our big marina, over some Christmas trees
and even long line trolling with no luck. I did manage to catch this giant though.
Love the color on that Bass. What lake?
Congrats. Hope you ate him.![]()

probably why you didn't catch any crappie, the green carp ate them all. I too hope you ate him and got him out of the lake![]()

Well, I must confess that I am a bass fisherman that has not been "converted" yet to
the elite status of "Crappie fisherman". Perhaps that will come with time an some success
in finally catching some of these elusive fish. :-)
I don't have electronics on my boat yet so that makes it more difficult for me. For now, I bought
some crappie reels to go with some ultra light rods that I had in the garage. We have a lot of
docks on the lakes for pontoon boats. I am going to try my hand at shooting jigs at them. Any
suggestions on good jigs to start with??
I use Hal-Fly's or curly tails in the summer. You want to use 1/24 or smaller for a slow fall. In the summer the fish are aggressive and bite most anything. Look for docks with at least 6 to 8 feet of water or deeper. Look for your line to jump or move or go limp. In the summer you might even feel them hit if they are real aggressive. You will catch a lot more crappie if you learn to see your line move. If you use bright green line it is easier to see the line move or at least for my old eyes. Shooting docks is like bass fishing, every dock is a new adventure, just like each bass hole might be the one to catch a bunch. I have caught 88 fish off of one dock. It is a lot of fun. Good luck.

Thanks Slabby15! There are some nice docks on the lake in deep water.
They seem to be where I normally catch my best bass. I will get rigged
up a hopefully report back soon with a nice success story and a picture
or two as well. :-)
