Wink SHORT TUESDAY REPORT ON OCONEE

Kowboy and I fished out of my boat today and it was my turn to fight the wind. Here is what I learned today.

    1) Leave your long lines at home on windy days. In the future if the wind forecast is 10 mph or over, I will push jigs tipped with minnows.

    2) When trolling in the wind leave your outboard motor in gear. Kowboy taught me this today after he untangled one of my long lines from the prop for the third time.

    3) Don't leave fish to find fish. Actually I knew this one from a long time ago but sometimes I have to be reminded. Some of you will say how do you find those secret spots if you don't look for them. My response is a) don't look for those spots while the fish ARE biting. b) fish on weekends and just look for the boats with those tall nets sticking up in them. (To be honest I was all in for doing the scouting this morning and I got to see some places on the lake I've not seen before. It will pay off one day.

    4) There are only two things weathermen get right. a) forecasting dry weather and b) forecasting windy weather.

Now for the short report: 20 fish, water 55-57 degrees, caught fish in 15-17 FOW and lots of fish in Sugar Creek. Now don't get upset. Sugar Creek ain't no secret.

Glad you caught some fish today.I didn't go back today because of the wind. I had enough of that yesterday. I have found it easier to pull in the wind instead of pushing..Wished I had my pulling rods yesterday. Never thought that I would see that many boats in one creek on a Monday. Headed out Thursday but probably going to Russel to catch some big fish.

I hate we didn't notice you Hobo. Haven't seen you in a while. I do believe we went by you a time or two come to think of it. I just didn't put 2 and 2 together. That guiding is tough. I couldn't stand the pressure of having to produce day in and day out. I don't know how they do it. I "guided" my wife three times. The first time was last spring during the peak. We caught 3 fish and I caught all three. The next time I took her we caught 6 and the last time 10. If I had to make my living with those kinds of results it wouldn't be long before I would be on the exit ramp of I-75 holding a cardboard sign.

Striper we did good pulling in the wind Monday but yesterday the wind was worse. The boat was going one way and I couldn't keep my lines straight behind me or maintain the speed. I was always to fast or to slow. My boat is lighter also. I would think your boat would do better in the wind than mine. I finally took up some lines. At one point we were in 17 feet of water out of the wind and we had a 16 foot rod hanging in the holder with about 18 inches of line out. We were going .8-.9 when a very nice crappie hit the jig on that 16 foot rod. She hit it like a trout taking a dry fly. Unbelievable! She came to Jackson with us.

Hey Guys! Yes...Guiding ain't all fun and games sometimes, but when you have a great network of info from other guides and friends like ya'll, It makes it a little easier! I've been super busy with trips, changing jobs....Left Highland Golf Club after 21 years and now work here at Cuscowilla on the Lake...trying to close on selling a house in social circle and keeping on the fish! It's been a great last two weeks and its really just getting started!.... I had 2 5 year old kids and the dads on the boat last Sunday...caught lots of fish, BIG FISH..trolling...Oh did I say 2 wide open 5 year olds on the boat....and you wanna talk about NERVES>>>>heheh...we had a great time, kids were funny...and I love Trolling! HAHAA!
