    Default Dock Shooting Line

Have any of you shooters ever tried using braid? I picked up a spool of
hi-vis 4lb the other day. I though the extra strength might help in getting some more jigs back. Does it fly off the spool like mono does?

4# braid isn't any stronger than 4# mono. But it will shoot off a spinning reel better.

I tried the fireline crystal as reccomended before a tournament at Lanier! I had similiar issues. Try litewire hooks!

Jigflinger, a 2 pound diameter is about 10 pound strength! You have to use the same diameter line as you typically would in a similiar mono for that reel. On my bait casters I use nothing less than 50 pound test and 30 usually on spinners. You also have to use a backing of mono to keep the line from slipping the spool. You also need to match your rod to the braided line. You should use a lighter action rod with braid specific guides. I like Fuji Hardloy guides for braid.

Then that would make it 10# test. I use 4# test nan o fil with a flouro leader. Stuff shoots off my Stradic like a bullet. Why do you have to use braid that is the same diameter as the mono you used before? One of the reasons to switch to braid is smaller diameter. I use the same rods with both types of line. No problems. The ceramic guides do work better. Tried a Micro-lite with stainless guides one trip. Braid will eat a groove in the tip pretty quick. Since the Stradics are so small I don't use mono backing. Just a spool knot and add a small piece of scotch tape to hold it in place while I fill the spool. I mentioned Nan-o-fil specifically. This line is a spinning reel specific line. Don't work worth a hoot on baitcasters.

Never had success shooting braid.....can't get it to peel off like mono. The lite wire hooks help with jig loss somewhat. I prefer Viscus hi-vis 6 lb.
Go ahead crappie slab...........Make my day!!!!

Try Fireline crystal in 2 # test. It's the bomb. You'll be amazed at the sensitivity and despite it's 2 # rating the break point is probably at least equivalent to 6 # mono. Yes you will lose some jigs but that's just part of shooting docks. You can use the light wire hooks as mentioned and get most of them back. Braid sucks for trolling but casting or shooting can't be beat in my opinion and I do it alot. The only situation where I don't use it is super gin clear water then go down to 4 # magnathin or even 2 # sensi-thin.

I use it some, power pro 10lb test 2 lbs dia. The trick to it shooting good is only using about 40 yards of braid tied with blood knot to mono. If you fill spool with braid it wont work.

Personally I like 4# crappie Maxx hi vis for shooting docks. You can see the line real well for line bites that you don't feel. You can get a large spool of 4# of 2700 yards for 7.99 at bass pro. It does have a bit of memory. But at that price you can respool many times for cheaper than the expensive lines out there.
