    Default trolling / spider rigging

I really don't long line troll...I mainly spider rig and just "bump around" with my speed set on #1 and use the momentary switch on the foot control. I just got my gps back and I do need to see what my speed will be on #1 ...clam day ...calm water...I bet it would be to fast as well...we"ll see... you could slow yourself down with a small drift sock, but i bet that would flat kill your battery in short order. I use a drift sock in the wind to keep from going too fast and man does it work!!!! You only hope that the wind is blowing in the direction you want to go due to the boat being "less than responsive" trying to change course fighting the drift sock drag!!!! I know that I pilots are the weapon of choice....but I wasn't about to drop a grand on a trolling motor!!!!

I may try a drift sock. Thanks for the reply.
I am new to crappie fishing and cant spend that more for a tm than my whole rig is worth. So far adding lead to my longlines and fishing way back has worked for me. But i know that sooner or later i will need to run slower than 1.2mph to catch fish. Again thanks your reply was very helpful.

My 1994 Ranger 374v with 175hp Mercury XRI. I got a lot of Lake Oconee miles on this one. Picture was taken after I bought her back in April 2011. Now has Driftmaster spider rigging rod holder setup in the bow. Thought about mounting clamp on rod holders to those round bars on the sides for longlining. All I need now is a MK I pilot trolling motor. Mine came with a 30lb Motorguide. Moves boat pretty well for a small motor. May be overkill as a crappie boat but I got a great deal on it and she rides great, easy to manuever, takes wind well and makes quick work of getting to one place to the other. If you see this one on Oconee stop and say hello.

Thats a great looking boat Gabowman. Looks like its in real good shape too. If i ever decide to get a true "lake" boat, this is about what I will be looking for.... Right now I fish out of a Grumman 1649 that I also use in the river during the spring/summer but it does not like the wind very well nor the waves from other boats. But I do catch fish and thats all that matters...
