    Default Oconee Report 11/13/11

Well I went to Oconee today and fished sugar creek, my usual place. Probably the worst trip I have had this fall. Got on the water about 8am and tightlined minnow tipped jigs down to the fish all the way to 4pm and FINALLY at 4pm on the dot I started getting on them. The wind was horrible and I had a hard time keeping my boat still. Ran into GTOJoe one of our members on here and he said he wasn't having much luck either. Joe don't give up on oconee. This weather must have them all messed up.
The fish were showing up like crazy all over the fish finder anywhere from 5 ft to 18ft deep. I kept trying different depths, colors etc but not much luck.

mtn, sometimes you can get on the fish and throw everything you have at 'em and they still wont bite. I guess that is why it's called fishing. Better luck next time guys.

Me and Dad went today we fished from 7:30 to 4:30. Caught about 45 kept 40 nice ones, 10 of them were super nice. Longline trolling was the ticket. Mtn Man was right about lunch time the wind got brutal. It was from the west which is good so got on a west bank to block it. Size is definitely improving on the trolling bite. Even the 10 inch fish today were alot thicker than last week. We kept on the move all day and covered alot of water. Late in the afternoon the big ones showed up for about 2 hours. Optimal speed on the Garmin handheld was 1.1 mph. I am starting to love me some longlining, been a diehard spider rigger for years. Kalin grubs got the fish today. Dad lost one rod to a striper or hybrid it launched from the trolling rack like a torpedo. No chance at all for recovery that thing was gone and gone quick. We basically had the lake to ourselves where we were. Saw one person spider rigging. Put in at Long Shoals, the ramp is completely fine.

PS water temperature 62-64 on the Lowrance
