Jim get yourself a Berkley culling system,it has a digital scale and different colored strings with a clip that you clip to they're bottom lip. No harm to fish, easy to use. As far as weigh in containers go, it can be any container that will hold 7 fish and enough water to sustain them. The bags are good , coolers or any container with wheels are good and easy on your back.

No, why would you think that? Here is a link to what I am referring to. My question remains the same...do these things cause a lot of harm to the crappie? I am exploring my options to make it easier to keep track of the wieght of the fish in my livewell without having to reweigh them if I choose to or need to cull.
If the question confused you then I guess you are not the one who can give me an answer.

Thanks Tony. I just saw that on Cabela's website. Looked like it will work good without harming the fish.

Jim, I'm not sure if that BassPro system requires you to put the hook thru the gills, or the lips. I don't think it's a wise idea to even touch the gills of a fish, let alone put a hook thru them if you want to keep them alive. I think that's what the other poster was questioning. If BassPro is marketing a product that requires going thru the gills, I'd have to give them a thumbs down.

No,all systems are designed to either poke through thin skin around bottom lip or clip onto lip.

Shellback and Outlaw, thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't familiar with how these systems worked so I asked the question. I'm glad I got a straight answer from someone.
When I looked at the picture of the culling system I did not realize you hooked the fish thru the lower lip. Bass Pro wasn't marketing it by saying to hook thru the gills, I just thought that is how it looked. Again, that is due to me not being familiar with the product.

As long as the fish are alive when you get in line for the weigh-in you will be fine, we will have someone check them if you think you have one that is iffy

A very inexpensive way is to use different colored diaper pins and just stick it thru the lips...That's the way alot of the old timers did it and still do it...As far as the bag for transporting the fish to the weigh in....well...
