Thanks for the welcome.
I won’t be much of a contributor, just a reader and learner, as I still consider myself a novice despite some fishing experience in my youth. Had a neighborhood pond my friends and I would fish in occasionally and have made a dozen or so weekend trips in the Breton Sound out of a Shell Beach, LA camp with a friend where we’d usually limit out on speckled trout. Also caught redfish, sheepshead, jack cravelle, grouper and remember my friend catching a cobia.
Been probably over a decade since I fished last and now have a kid of my own. Decided last week to take her fishing in our neighborhood pond for one last summer activity before school started. Went to academy, bought a purple Zebco since I started on a Mickey Mouse Zebco. Got some hot dog buns and proceeded to have one of the most memorable and best days of my life. She caught her first fish and 8 perch? (have always called these perch but realizing now after reading a little they may not be) total in a span of about 45 min. I don’t think a kid could smile harder. What’s even more amazing about it is she is the biggest girlie girl in the world and to see this level of excitement was completely unexpected.
She loves it so much we’ve gone back every evening since and to be honest I’m falling in love with it as well. We’ve caught about 20 or so over the past few days and I’ve been dreaming of fishing every night. Haven’t had this much fun in a while.
Well anyway, like I said I’m here to learn and research a budget rig of my own.

Welcome from KY. Looks like you guys found a good spot. Great to see a kid smile while fishing. Keep having a good time, and most of us old guys still smile like that when we're catching fish.
