Hi guys/girls, I'm starting to fish for Crappie from a kayak or shore and will be fishing Piney Run or Rocky Gorge Reservoirs in Maryland. My confusion is which line to use on my spinning reel and what is the recommendation as to whether I need to use a leader line or not. I've seen different opinions about this. I started out with 6lb mono clear, but when I test casted in my back yard, I couldn't see the line that well, so I switched to high vis 6lb braid which was easier to see and it didn't coil up off the reel like the mono did. So that is what I plan to use. But my question is do I still need to attach a 4-6ft mono or fluorocarbon leader since I only be fishing in 2-7ft without any serious brush or obstacles that would snag or break the line. I intend to jig from a float bobber with live minnows or use jigheads. I don't understand why I should'n attach my hooks/jigs directly to the braid line. Thanks for your responses. Richard

Richardc, you need to post questions like this in the "Main Crappie Fishing Forum" and you will get a lot more answers and opinions on your
question. I don't use a leader and use 10/2 hi-vis power pro braid on my tight line jig poles and Wally Marshall hi-viz 6 lb mono on the rest of my rods. If your having trouble with the mono coiling up you might have spooled it on in the wrong direction coming of the line spool. Hope this helps.
