For smallies I use Root Beer colored bead head Wooly Buggers. Hop them along a rocky bottom a few inches at a time. Pay attention and hang on, because the strikes are sudden and violent.

After doing a little wading and fly fishing the past week, I'm getting excited about going after some small river smallmouth. I was looking to tie some bigger streamers, but will really need to buy some materials for much of that. I found a bunch of popper bodies and the hooks to go with in my stuff, so I spray painted the bodies, clear coated with nail polish, and tied them up with what I had.
Tonight I glued up another 10 bodies, but I tried 5 of them as "sliders", ie, reverse bodies. Need to paint them and tie a few to try out.

Old enough to know better and way too old to care!
Those poppers look great!! You tie quality flies so I have no doubt they will hold up well and catch fish!! Good luck fishing!!
I wish I knew how to tie because Bass Pro wants like $5 for one popper!!
