Those are some great looking ties, Jcozzz. What are you using for the shellback on the yellow one with the plain yellow legs? It looks like some kind of braid.

i think it is midge braid, by hairline i believe .just my version of the humbug,a little tougher than chenille as you can wind it real tight.one of those slow sinking, tumbling type of flies.i tie in the black then the charteuse and tie off at mid hook and double wrap the charteuse ti build it up and give it a more spidery look.pull the black over real tight add the legs then wrap once or so with the black for the head.good fly for the beds

Yes spiders have 8 but fish do not eat water spiders. According to aquatic biologists they are very low in protein. I assume they did not taste good. And not being smart but 2 plus 4 =6. Also I said most. Just trying to give proper procedure tips. As posted I do not think the fish care.

well they do eat foam spiders with 8 legs, predators with 4.lots of nymphs with none.i try to tie flies that are simple and durable.like to get at least 10 fish per fly.i used to sell flies myself but not worth my time and turned something i like to do into a job.you can make your flies as anatomically correct as you wish.i am sure they are beautiful with your attention to detail.

Big gills are pretty darn picky in my experience...but I'm not too sure they care how many legs a bug has. Although I catch them on flies I tie, anatomically correct or not, I love to see good fly tiers do bugs that look surprisingly real.
