I caught 3 monster shell crackers Thursday morning, March 7, in the pads in the southeast corner of Orange Lake. They were fat and thick with roe. I caught them on grass shrimp and that was pretty much it for crackers along with 2 monster cats and 6 big specks. They shut down by 1pm but I had enough for supper.

Yes, I got the specs on grass shrimp. I forgot to mention that the hydrilla in Orange is pervasive. It seems to surround the pads but it's not actually in the pads themselves. The water around the pads is fairly clear. I went to Orange again on Tuesday, March 12 and ran through Cross Creek to the pads on the north end of Lochloosa. I used grass shrimp and minnows up there and caught 6 specs on minnows and 4 blue gill on grass shrimp. All the specs were full of roe, no roe in the 'gills. There was zero hydrilla in Lochloosa.
