    Default Jig Pole?

What do y’all jig with? I have a 10’ jig pole I got from bridgemasters in lake wales. It’s just a blank rod with a single tip at the end and I love it but I cannot find anything like it online. They are selling a different type at bridgemasters but they are extremely flimsy and I broke one on the first fish I caught with it (6” bass)

First, welcome from Debary. As for the pole, I use a Sam Heaton Super Sensitive with the rear reel seat and it balances great. Has a touch the blank spot through the cork on the handle and you feel everything. Not as stiff as some I’ve seen but I haven’t been disappointed in it since I won it at a CDC event a few years ago. Hope you find what you’re after.

Are you able to flip fish in the boat with it? I’ve heard great things about the rod, but after handling one, I’m wondering if you can boat flip fish. Thanks

If they are bigger than 1.5#'s I wouldnt recommend it unless it wont hurt your feelings for loosing them. Remember, theyre called "paper mouths" for a reason.

I have Sam Heaton 12' rod but not the one with the rear seat. I have a 1000 series President spinning reel on it. After 6 hours of fishing my shoulder was killing me. Looking to go another way. Rod performed well. No problem with the reel. The weight was my issue. Perhaps a rear seated model would be better with a lighter reel.

    Lots of things to consider.
    First being age and condition.
I will soon be 89, and 6 hours is about all i can handle regardless of the rod im using.
But that said, the rear seat rods do balance a bit better.
But weight is still the main issue over long periods of time.
The BnM Sam Heaton rods are very nice rods, i own a 7 a 9 and a 10’ model.
But as for weight, they are a bit heavier than the regular BnM ultra lites, which are still my favorite as for weight.
I have recently added a 12’ BnM rear seat ultra lite.
I didnt like it with a traditional 1000 size spinning reel, so i bought a Zebco Mini 33 closed face reel from Amazon for less than $17.
Its a very small reel, and they come pre spooled with Cajun 4 pound line.
There is a bit fancier model for about 6 bucks more, i have both, and find no difference for my purpose.
Reels on long jig poles are simply for storing line, nothing else, so a good reel isnt necessary.
Another option as for weight is the Bream Buster model telescopic rods, they weigh almost nothing.
Dont laugh untill youve used them for jigging.
Just use your head when handling heavy fish or ones hung up in weeds, grab the line, and use a net, dont be using the rod for heavy stuff.
But then the same goes for the ultra lites.
Point is to cheat where ever you can as for eliminating weight.

IMO, I’ve owned rear seat rods, and for sure they are well balanced, but the one pain is you can’t set them down in a rod holder. I was always laying them across the boat and in the way. There may be a better way but I just don’t know it. The Jenko 10’ Hyoersense is super light. Good luck with your buying decision.

Depends on the type of rod holder.
I have 6 Driftmasters on each side of my boat, and they work for the rear seat rods.
But i pretty much only use them for holding my rods when transporting them.
For me they work as well as the transport racks.
