I’m looking for an 8’ rod that I’ll be putting a small spinning reel on with 4# test.
What I don’t want is a long butt section that’s on so many crappie rods.
Plus something that won’t break the bank.
Any suggestions?

What action are you looking for in this 8' rod ??
I have a 8' Blue Diamond BnM that's medium light action, that I like. It has the split handle (Poodle tail extension).
Or maybe look at something like the BnM Bucks Ultimate 8' med action rod (which doesn't have a real long handle or extended handle).

With 4# test line ??
OK ... I admit I used to use 4# mono and weedless jigheads for casting to brushpiles or downed trees, and while I did catch a lot of fish of decent size .... there were times when if I hadn't had a loose drag, that line would have never held.
Also, I'm not sure how balanced you're gonna get an 8' rod with a "small" spinning reel. My 8' Blue Diamond is a light rod, but my Shimano Spirex 1000 (rear drag) reel is a perfect balance (and the reel weighs over 8.5oz).
Steve, I have a couple of ideas of storebought or I can build you what you want. Do you still have my number?
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Pappy, it’ll be 4# braid with a long heavier leader. I’ll also alternate with 10# as well.
This has to do with our fishing clubs tackle categories restrictions more than anything.
We have ultralight (4#) and spin (10#) tackle classes that are artificial lures only.
As for using 4#, I’ve caught bass over 8lbs and saltwater fish over 30# on it.
As for where/what I’ll be fishing, being on the St. John’s river, we pitch to openings in the pads and lay downs along the banks. Not so much brush piles like you would fish on lakes.
When you say 4# braid are you referring to the braid's diameter (vs mono) or the actual breaking pound test ?? I use PowerPro 10/2 on one rod (10# test breaking point / 2# test diameter), but that's the lightest braid I've used. The rod is a Bionic Blade 7' Med action (ceramic guide inserts).
I've looked at a lot of different brands of 8' rods & the only one I've found with a shorter handle is the BnM Buck's Ultimate. It has Aluminum Oxide guides.
Pappy, 4# breaking test/1# diameter
It’s my club rules so it’s what I have to abide by. I’ve fished it for many years so I’m pretty comfortable with it.
Thanks for the rod recommendation I’ll check it out. I want the length in the rod, not in the handle like most are.
