    Default SLAM!!

Again! I haven’t gotten one in a while and the snook wasn’t tiny but he wasn’t big either. He did his part being the third species to make a slam though.

This was a morning that we all hope for in many ways. Good temps, no wind, building to a major feed and not another boat anywhere close by. One cloud kept the bright sun at bay for a little while longer than it should have which let the topwater bite work overtime. But that’s not exactly true either. Most of the trout in the morning came subsurface as they were having a tough time committing to the topwater.

The first trout popped the plug no less than ten times over about 15’ before he finally opened his mouth and ate it. 17” and a good fight from a respectable player. I’d bought a suspending Mirrolure that just looked right in the store and the fish thought so today. Dog boned it more than not. A new hot ticket.
I wound up with four trout over twenty inches but under twenty three and had two others pull free after a good fight with lots of head shaking going on. I believe the glassy conditions helped this quiet plug do it’s job a little better. The knocker in the topwater was a bit loud.

Then about 9:30 the wind picked up and everything changed. Boat control became tough and I was blowing into areas I’d already passed through. I used a point to break the wind a bit and there was lots of stuff in the water from a few of the past storms and the fish liked being around. I saw a large tail poke up that was connected to an above average redfish, but I couldn’t get his attention. There was a few others nearby so I pitched in front of a couple of those and twitched a few times and got the thump. A good hookset had him pinned and the drag started talking. 23” and a photo op and a revival left him no worse for the wear.

Now the wind was being a real bothersome I headed for the ramp, kinda. I ducked behind the spoil islands and figured out which shoreline had less wind and let the wind blow me towards the ramp. Igor several smaller fish throwing a jig and one of them was a 17” snook to complete the slam. These fish today were feeding and I was busier than I’ve been in a few weeks, and it felt good! A small red and a few more snook and the dolphins showed up. Trashing a few schools of baitfish or whatever shut my fish down and it was near noon so I just headed home. Several smaller trout and a small red came to visit and kept me busy before the dolphins so I was OK with getting run off. Y best day in a while and everything was out of slot or season so I had none to clean, which was OK too. Heres a few last pics and I hope you get a trip like this next time out, I’ll wait to hear about it. Thanks for coming along, hope to see you soon. Til then……..Skeet

I really dislike the auto correct. Igor? Really? Sorry for the typos.

Doug, my bluegill are out in the woods and I just don’t like to troll as much as I used to. The thump has me ruined. But the salt has its own attraction. I’ll take it with a smile.

Nice trip Tim. Those trout would have come home over here. What is the size limit and creel over there. It just changed to 15 over 13 inch and 2 over 20 inch over here I think. Waiting for the 2024 reg. book to be sure. But will call wildlife before I go next time, to be sure.
