    Default New PB

With the wind finally laid down for the first time in forever, I headed for the coast and some topwater at daybreak. I have a video of the ride across but it’s not ready to be added yet. Take my word that it was beautiful with glassy water all around and not another boat in sight. I shut down out a ways and slowly eased up to where I wanted to be. Mullet everywhere, a good sign. Walking the dog with a white skitterwalk and getting popped now and then by the smaller fish. Then one of those pops got serious and a medium heavy rod got loaded up real good. Never broke the surface but stayed down and bulldogged me. For a change I was even able to get a hand on the net. I took a swipe at him but he won that time. The next time I tried something a little different and was able to get it in front of his escape route and he was in it good. My new PB spotted seatrout that was real close to 24” and tall and meaty. He’d been out of the water too long for my liking after the fight he gave so it was a pic and release after getting him free of the trebles. He’s still out there after taking a few minutes to gather himself and swimming off. Got a 15” and a 16” to go with him, released those too, and never came tight on another fish til I left just after noon. Trout that size have some power and the fight was great, I’ll remember this for a good while. Can’t wait til I can go again. Thanks for looking in and sharing my thrill, hope to see you soon. Til then…….Skeet

Notice how the shorter fish is long and skinny and the extra height on the big one. He was impressive! Well, to me anyway.

I usually ask my queen if I should keep fish or not, and today it was no. Mosquito Lagoon has had its troubles with sea grass die off and that’s important to the trouts way of life, so I give em every break I can. I’m sure that the shark that took a swipe at my plug wouldn’t be as forgiving.

Congrats on the PB. Since he was released just maybe you'll catch him again when he's a 26"er.

Congrats on your PB trout. Topwater hits are a rush. I wish more youngsters would get hooked on fishing and not video games.

Nice one for sure, congrats !!
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"
