After searching for right lake and campground I chose Taylor Creek on north end of Okeechobee. Finding an open campground without crazy rules by good fishing has been hard lately and if I’m driving from snow country I wanted to know it would be warm
waht is best technique for crappie in the area artificial or minnows. Years ago I was here and saw people with many minnow poles out at night in the canal
also might spend a little time with lures for bass will water temperature be right for that

I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

A few years ago, some friends and I would take a trip to the Big O every year in February. We caught a few fish with every method we used. By far the best two were longlining in the canals and multi pole downlining in the river just north of the mouth under lights. That is a beautiful area and the wildlife viewing itself is worth the trip. When you arrive, go by Fast Break and ask for advice they were very helpful. Please let us know how you fare, i'd like to go back!

Lots of minnow fishing in the river and some canals. I prefer to single (or 2 pole) jig in the thick stuff. Some guys spider rig in the river or troll. I think you can catch them any way you wish.
