Was going to take this weekend off, but woke up this morning to a slight breeze (was forecasted for double digits @ sunrise) & decided to hook up the boat. No sooner than I'm ready to travel to my destination, Lake Jesup, the wind starts to pick-up, so I leave the trolling poles & take (2) jigging poles & (2) float/jig poles. Start out with the jig under float approach w/NO takers the 1st couple hrs. Then suddenly, I remember a video from BlueGabe (Youtube) fishing the "Maiden Cane" @ the big "O" & decided to pull from that knowledge & hit the cane, out of the wind...Pulled out the Zebco 8ft. "Crappie Fighter" & start vertical jigging less than 2ft of water. Don't take long & the 1st fish is boated. Turns out this pole & presentation is all the resources I would need the rest of the afternoon...Found 1 area that held a limit, in a 5ft by 5ft. section, no monsters today, just healthy 12" fryers...also only needed a 1/32 jig dressed w/ Bobby Garland ice-blue minnow, in pic below, w/non-stop action from 11am-3pm, also a pic of the "noddle action" the Zebco rod had, lit' hard to see w/yellow tip, but held up to the abuse setting hook & pulling fish out of the Cane, economical set-up to prove you don't need all that fancy stuff, just reliable stuff...hope your lines are tight your next trip...

That's a good 1 Yobuck...lol...imagine you could get a pretty good detail of the root system. Truth be told, don't have livescope & only use the depth & speed info on my lowrance, rarely I'll use the mapping for contour info, & have ZERO gps tracks. Try & use what God gave me upstairs (limited though), for example yesterday, took note that where a bush grew next to the cane, was where you would pick a fish up (where most were caught) Did find a few in the wood, & there noted a clump of grass growing off it held a fish or 2 also....another thing to add about the cane fishing was patience is needed as you drop into all that crossing debris underwater, but w/only bout 18" of line out, found you can easily remove a hang-up by pulling the rod tip to the jig & let the rod shake free...

Well good job on the fish.
We tend to be creatures of habit, and do the same things over and over, even when it isnt working.
In the mostly shallow lakes we have here, there will always be fish under that grass.
Put it in their face, and some will always grab it.
Now go make yourself a rake. lol
nice bunch of fish. wind blowing blowing blowing here. hoping for some evening calm.
