Fishing share similarities that came to mind during my early, pre-light, mid-week Gulf trip that started with a heater/defroster mandate. At home- Sofas, reclining easy-chairs, and beds are the assigned Director's chair with remote control in hand. OTW- the layout remains the same with favorite chair/position and often times a remote control helping to get you dialed in. Many surprises/memories made the smiley-face list. that began on Channel 3(the THUMP). After a formidable 3 - 4 minute tug-o-war, my adversary surrendered to a net massage and hesitantly agreed to an ice bath. The 20" broadly-shouldered Channel bass(aka Mr. Redfish) was my 1st Red that qualified to be kept for my still early attempts in the Fall season. Fortunately, just 4 casts later(Channel 7), the EXACT thing replayed itself=an identically shaped/measured 20" Red allowed me a quick photo-op with the twins "Gertrude & Heathcliff" (fondly borrowed from the Red Skelton comedy hour(60's/70's) before being set free. The day's non-fluctuating low tide(10")made locating trout difficult but allowed me to find some new spots to add to my go-to's that rewarded me with the best Reds day I ever had = 25 with 5 keepers that measured to 26"! and a beautiful, multi-freckled specimen I called Howdy Doody(50's/60's TV) Later on, I finally found the sweet trout hangouts that yielded my limit of 5 up to just under 20" Only a few ladyfish showed up but I did enjoy yet another surprise...my 1st keeper Flounder(John Belushi's portly pal in Animal House) to join my group photo- Just a few more pics/giggles before letting you go
and the finale(drumroll Please) my audience = the REAL Gertrude & Heathcliff....
The beautiful pastel blue tails could easily illustrate the fabulous day with the BLUES BROTHERS!!
'til next time-
