Last year we fished the Lake Beresford, Dead river area and did very well.

This year we were forced to find a new RV park due to the one we stayed at being shut down by the county and ended up north of lake George in Welaka because every place was booked up.

Night and Day difference. The tide currents are much stronger, water is bigger, brackish, an the fish seem to scatter instead of school. We are packing it up a month early this year with no fish to take home.

I will say this, Welaka is a nice little town and the people and RV park are awesome!

Thinking about heading to Texas next winter.

Northforker... I was fishing last weekend in Satsuma, up above Welaka, and thinking man I wish I didn't have to deal with so much current... I was playing around with the Livescope and was seeing just how difficult it is to stay on top of the fish, with the wind and that current and get the jig down to them. One thing for sure, I was using 1/16 and I'm going to 1/8 or trying to find 1/4.. I thought several times, just make the run to Crescent where the current isnt' so bad...and the river isn't as bad as Dunns Creek, that current can really Rip! It's just better to longline or push in that area

Try the flats across from Welaka lodge for red bellies as it’s been tough for specs for a while , that’s what I’ve been told lately. If you see a blue tracker 175tf out of Riverbend Condoes south of Welaka lodge give me a shout !!!
