So I went this morning but it was kind of my normal luck first day after a front pushes through. I wouldn’t have gone hungry but no chance at a feast. Went upriver early while it was cold because the forecast was for stiff winds after 9 or so, and they didn’t lie. Caught a few on a jig and cork and a couple on my Blind Popeye that I had to remake after yesterday’s mudfish melee. Glad they weren’t painted, would have been bald at days end. Best fish was no giant but awful purty with his suit on.
When the wind got up, the bite slowed and I had to go somewhere out of the wind. Pulled into another slough and started back with the jig and cork, and a bird moved in the tree to my right. Who was it but the kite that I had gotten an ID on yesterday. Like 10’ away. Dug for the phone and he (she?) couldn’t have cared less that I was there. Snapped a few pics and moved on.
Very pretty bird with a longer than usual hook to the beak for opening snails. Looked things over and moved a little a few times and flew off for better snailing I guess. So cool to have about 2 minutes to look it over.
The bite didn’t improve much and it got close to noon, so after going through most of the area I was familiar with I packed up and headed home. None to clean, caught 5 different species and no bad issues to deal with. A good day. Hope to see y’all on the water one day soon, til then.......Skeet.
