Good job Jeff. I didn’t do near as well, gonna hit it again for a while this morning. Sure are some nice ones
Waited for the rain to pass this morning, so launched the boat around noon. Had a short time on the lake trolling (2hrs) before the wind started to pick up, but was surprised the passing front yielded some good shouldered fish including a 2# 15 inch Mama, ready to spawn...it's the time of yr I turn them back to the water for future seed, so no fish kept today....So the wind sent me to the tranquil surroundings of a nearby creek & it was jig & float time. The bite was steady with many variety of fish & sounds of nature strolling the banks. The specks were mainly dark males... was a fun time unexpected...tight lines all...BTW upon launching was approached by a FWC rep. who was surveying the Shad run, told me the 1st wave is around Christmas area of Rt. 50 St. John's & they expect another run mid-February...

Glad you were able to get on them yesterday, I was just to tired to go out after a full week of tough fishing with the guys. The fish just haven’t made the big push to the shore in my area. Luckily on my last go to spot we got 18 casting jigs to send the guys home on a good note, I need some sleep.

Nice pics! I’ve only caught shad fishing for other species, it would be nice to hit a run.

crappie down !
Shad ( American and Hickory)were a very important food/export for early America. Many preferred the taste of shad to other fish, I just wanted to catch enough to try. They have a lot of bones but I have watched video of how to fillet them properly. Just a neat way to connect with some history.
