In light of recent events and without starting debates on what ifs and shoulda, coulda woulda. Please everyone, wear your life jackets. The inflatables are very comfortable and no reason not to wear one. And if anyone is going offshore, please invest in an EPIRB and a PLB and register them. My prayers go out to the families that lost loved ones here recently. Cost of any of the above should not even be a consideration.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have a retirement plan...FISHING!
Great advice to one and all. Thanks
Going to beat the EPIRB idea into my son's head for his offshore boat. Or better yet I'll just get him one. Also I keep telling him to learn to navigate using his compass and a good chart. Can't always depend on the fancy electronics to work all the time. Hey it's fun too.
At least turn and go due west on compass to find beach and go from there. EPIRB and good VHF with tall whip should be mandatory outside 1/2 mile. Heck people spend 3 times the cost of those 2 items to put a stereo in their boat.
I had this same conversation with a friend... if going off shore, especially more than 20 miles, it should be mandatory to have EPIRB... heck cost is less than a couple tanks of gas
Well remember also that boats over 22’ in length aren’t required to have foam floatation, and most don’t.
If this one did we probably wouldn’t be having this discussion.

Didn’t know that about the foam, that’s just dumb. At the production level the foam is neither expensive or hard to apply.
