    Default I Think I Dodged A Bullet

We all know how important our maintainence is. Sometimes it slips out mind, or we just figure it will be OK for a little longer. For whatever reason it just doesn’t get done on time. I had one of two switch boxes that control the ignition go out last Sunday and had to make a stop by the mechanic Monday. As luck would have it, he had what i needed from a blown 150 that had the boxes changed last year. Sold me one of the pair for half of retail. A new pair would have been $700 retail. While i was there I picked up an impeller kit which was overdue. Put in the box that afternoon, worked fine, and got to the impeller kit today. I believe i got my money’s worth from the old one, though everything else looked very good for not having been attended to for over 9 years. A little learning curve made the job a little slow, aligning the splines for drive shaft and shifter at the same time took just a little dumb luck. All done and back in business by noon, after moms oil change, and i’m Looking for a shower and the way to the ramp. Also, notice how i suspended the lower unit while i worked on it. I’ve seen attachments for a vise and a few other ways to secure this odd shaped heavyweight but this was easy and quick. Two 1X12 about 3’ long and just slide them in as you see in the pic and go to work. Never moved and just the right height. Point of all this is; if its overdue, get off your butt and get it done. Had this come apart i could have had a world of headaches.......Skeet
