Look like a great day

You all know that I haven’t been fishin in a coons age, and many times longer than that to get out with my bestest fishin buddy Camryn. Both came together this morning. Had a lot of options with several close by, but went to where I knew we could hide from the wind and have fun. That we did. A short trip through some areas that let us knock the rust off, and here came the wind. One area that usually works well couldn’t be fished for the wind. The tiny rigs get blown around easily making casting tough. I should have kept the Warmouth today. They were active and I got one that was a pound plus and 3 fingers wide. I couldn’t control him at all in the early going. No less than ten that were fillet size went through the boat today, and that would have been an outstanding meal. The majority of the crappie we caught today were males all dressed for the dance but we never boated a swollen female. Looked for them nearby but didn’t find any. Camryn has one male that would have passed the pound mark easy that was super dark, and she had never seen them like that. Said it looked scary dark.
The weather was comfortable and the windbreakers had come off shortly after the ride in, and the sweatshirts made the distance but it was hot. At one point I saw movement in the water and called to Cam to look. There was a turtle rising until it saw us that had a head very close to the size of my clenched fist, biggest I’ve ever seen in fresh water. Never cleared the surface and moved off. The usual serenade was there with the owls talking back and forth, and the limpkins screeching. This must be an area that works for the young gar for some reason as we caught half a dozen of them just over a foot long. Copper nose bluegill, Warmouth, Crappie and gar were caught today but we never boated a LMB or Redbelly like I normally do. Come to think of it, never saw a shell cracker either. A great trip, done by noon and a quick pizza for lunch across the street from the house. I’ve missed the time that she and I used to get more of, being 14 and active in school means I have to share. Thanks for coming along and I hope to write of another of our trips real soon. Until then be careful and enjoy what time you get......Skeet.

The post spawn bite should pick up soon Tim, the spawned out females will be on the snap. Looks like you found some calm areas to fish. It was a bit windy yesterday. Nice pics.

Went back to the scene this morning for a couple of hours. The bite was very different than yesterday but a few stars made an appearance. The high spot of the day was one fish in particular, and I never got my hands on her. I was using an extendable cane pole 15’ long. Dropped a jig alongside a tre trunk and got a thump. Set the hook and thought I was hung but then it started moving. I guess I had too much heat or not enough hook. When this fish that I’m sure would have made and probably cleared two pounds came to the surface and rolled, the jig came free. I was in disbelief at the side of that fish as it rolled.......HUGE!! I wrote it off to inexperience with that kind of rod and the #6 hook. Moved around a little and did nothing and eventually dropped it back where that big fish was. Another thump, this time I did my best to stay connected, but it was a repeat of a minute ago. Silver sides and belly told me it was a big girl, no black showing. Got a few that were picture worthy but that was the only female I saw today. Glad to see that she’s back there doing what she’s supposed to, lots more will follow her an a few months when they hatch. More projects to finish so this may be it for a few weeks but it was definitely worth it.
