I know y’all have heard me go on lately about the project that was thrown on me a while back. I can only remember fishing once in the last 5 weeks. And it’s about to wear a little thin. For those of you that have never done a ceramic tile shower from tear down to complete, you have no idea how tedious it is. Two words have become my nemesis; Dry Time.
After it failed and I tore it out it was 5 days under a fan before it was dry enough to start work. Just kept finding stuff that should have been dry that wasn’t. Every stage has to dry at least overnight and some more than that. Materials aren’t that expensive, but I now know why those guys charge so much for the job. Gas alone for the repeated trips is considerable. I found I had two saving graces, having seen it done for many years and you tube. I’ve watched so many videos that I know my hard drive is about full. Materials have improved, as has the techniques used. Things that were acceptable years back aren’t considered any more. One in particular I found is the waterproofing. Like the latex I used when laying rug, it is used as a full coverage water barrier. Look up red guard in you tube and you’ll understand better than I can explain.
Finished caulking and grouting today and I’m ready to put showers where and when you can are now past. It is the nicest that my Queen have ever had in any of our houses. I’m absolutely thrilled that it’s in the rear view with the exception of straightening up the wall on the bathroom side, piece of cake. A few pics, the one with the dark green is the water barrier, and I left a bunch out. Thanks for all your patience listening to me whine about workin and not fishin, I missed a good couple of weeks.
