    Default Solo Reel

Picked up a Solo reel, to replace the BANO1 on my jig pole.
Does anyone know if this reel is supposed to have an anti-reverse function? I thought it did, but seems I can lock the spool down, only by tightening up the drag. So if you want anti-reverse, you have no drag.
    Is that correct?
    Thanks

That's correct, no reverse lock. Good little reels though.

So the drag only works if you release the handle..... otherwise it's direct drive. The handle must spin with the spool, if the drags to work. So the drag is more a spool "tensioner".

The handle is part of the spool, Duh.. I don't know what I was thinking. It has a silent "clicker" on the drag. You can't hear it, but can "feel" it as the line is pulled against the drag. Pretty cool.
I think Im gonna like this one. I reversed the Bano1 that it's replaceing, as it came with the handle on the right side of the spool. Never was right after that. I suppose I buggered up something, reasembleing it.

It's just a fly reel built to fit a spinning rod. Fly reels don't have anti-reverse.

Back when I was a kid no reels had the fancy stuff they were all direct drive and your thumb on the spool was the drag and the anti over run control. If the fish ran you better get your fingers away from the handle. I was just 5 and fished with my grandfather and his brother almost everyday in the summer. He made me cast and I had to pick my own backlashes out. You learn fast that way. I remember him stringing his fishing line on my grandmother,s cloth line poles to dry so it didn't rot.
I don't mind sharing where I caught my fish.
Most was caught in their mouth.

They are ok reels, but you must set your drag!! Anti reverse is done by holding line under your fingers.

I kinda fish these type reels, holding the line away from the rod, in my left hand. Rear seat rod in my right. Most times just fight the fish just like that, and swing em in the boat.
On occasion, a muddy, cat or bass will mess up my plans however! Then the maylem begins!
