Nice going Tim, I finished the day with only five in the box but they were all quality fish. Don't know how many got a pass.
I thought I was going to be slick and fish a dead river to hide from the wind, apparently everyone else had the same idea.
If the river was gonna give up a few fish today. Had some yard work to catch up on so I didn’t get an early start. Get all ready and pull up to the ramp and there’s a BMW backed in the ramp. There’s only one of those in the area. So I walked over and said how do to Bassman who was pulling out after a good morning. A few pleasantries my anxious nature told me I had to go. Shook hands and off we went in our different directions. Ran to my indicator spot and got started. Weather report said 12 mph winds and they didn’t lie, made boat control a pest but it was manageable. I wasn’t the only one trying to hide from the wind. Lots of boats came and went as the day progressed.
Fishing started slow with the predictions being highest after 12 and I started fishing about 10 so I had a while to go. Talking with a couple of snowbirds that were bass fishing I got my first crappie of the day. Squeezing in at just over 10, he was the first of many to get a pass today. I worked past them, picking up a fish now and then, the day beginning to start to look up. Got out the anchor and tried to cut down on the boat control but the wind made casting an even worse pest so I went back to hiding from the wind. It wound up being a good move.
Finally found the crappie I was looking for with a 6” throwback. Trees laying underwater made casting demands high. I don’t like to break off because that means a new leader and lost time. If I hang up I go in after it and that spooks the fish. I just found them so I didn’t want that. Out of the wind, moving back and forth, the good crappie began to turn on. Itty Bitty Slab Slayers were getting the play today in fine style. Got a strike, set the hook and the fish didn’t move. Very nice fish, the one in the pic with the rod. I got 4 like that today, all comfortably over a pound. Also had 4 stud quality Warmouth come to visit, and another gold shiner on plastic. Rare for me. The other pic is, heaven help me, is my first selfie with a Crappie. The red mark in the corner of his mouth is a hole from someone else’s hook. A good day overall, I would have eaten well had I kept them. Good to see Bassman this morning, and I’m hoping that you had a good day if you got out. Til next time........Skeet.

Love how dark those Florida black crappie get. Just pretty! I've been considering a purchase of one of those Lew's Wally Marshall rods too.

Addict, I have both a 5’6” and a 6’ one piece and like em both. You could do a lot worse for the money. A friend just got a 6’ Fenwick that wasn’t much different in price and fishes very well for what we like to do with them. Everything I throw with mine is 1/32 or less, usually 1/64.
