    Default Istogpoka

Since I am depressed with the way Okeechobee looked, I decided to venture up to Isty. Not many boats on the water, and I only caught 3. Single poling in the pads, 2 of the 3 had eggs. All 3 were nice fish. I'm going to keep my quest for Crappie alive, haven't written Isty off, but somewhat concerned there is no hydrilla to be found there. Good 'ole spray boats have been busy. Going to try Garcia or maybe Kenansville next, unless someone has a better suggestion. Good luck to all!

I don’t have a better suggestion, but I do have a comment about the past couple of days fishing. Don’t judge Isty to harshly. I went yesterday morning for a few hours to an area that I do very well with a mixed bag. I don’t think I caught 10 fish instead of my usual 50 plus, and the bite was way off for me. Others had better success but were in other areas. Give it another shot sometime and I’ll bet your results will be way different. Good luck when you go.

Thanks for the tip. I told the wife when I got home that I'd be going back, it does look good. I caught 2 in an area I've never fished before in about 20 minutes, I thought I was in them, but then no more; plus the wind picked up.

Were you saying you were on Isty yesterday? I don't post here much, and am not up with everyone's home area. I've been fishing around here since 1992, but am still working so I only get about 4 weeks a year to find them. I retire in about 5 years!

Same here Tim, only caught 16 but they were nice size, and a bonus 4.5lb LM bass. Tough retrieve on a 14' rod with 6lb line. The river was socked in with clumps of weeds.

No Swat, I live in Debary and fish the St Johns River close to the house here. My point was that while the day was pretty tha fishing wasn’t what it normally is. Barometric and solunar conditions may have been off enough to make the fish uncooperative. My preferred method is single pole but I’ll troll when things are really hot. I find single pole fishing a good indicator of the fishes activity level.
