Default lake okeechobee crappie guides and lodging

Well me and the wife are going down to florida for a few day in march to visit my parents they live in Naples the big O is not far away. So we are going to go fish the first 2 days of our trip. Was wondering if anyone would have any recomendadtions for a guide march 17 and 18, and where to stay? any pointers or help would be appreciated as we have never been there.

Yea we have heard of it although have never seen it, don't know much about it, and didn't realize it effected the big 0. From the two responses so far I am guessing fresh water fishing in Florida is a bust? Please excuse my ignorance also, as I am from Missouri so I know nothing about the ocean and fresh water in Florida. We just love to crappie fish and the Big O is a lake on the bucket list.

Red tide is not in freshwater. Here are some websites to get you started. Look for Speck or Crappie guides on Okeechobee.

Freshwater is deffinately not a bust. Just figured if your coming all the way down may as well experience light tackle inshore fishing. Red tide is usually along the beaches and beginning parts of inlets. Backcountry is usually not too bad, the guide I suggested will tell you a true deal. If he says no go, don't go.

If your going to Naples, check out Chokoloskee, near Everglades city.
That would be the #1 location in Florida for inshore fishing including the Keys.
Some of the best guides in the keys moved to that area years ago.
Actually anywhere from Marco to the south in the ten thousand islands would be great.
To visit that area for a week and not fish there would be a serious mistake.

If you have good Crappie fishing near where you live, then by all means do a inshore trip. Hintinslabs and yobuck are correct. You will be amazed with a good guide, a trip of a lifetime. Snook, redfish, Spotted sea trout and maybe juvenile Tarpon.

Red tide will be gone after water cools and should not be back before March. After waters clean it doesn't take long for fish to move back in. Lessor numbers for a while for the areas that were affected.
