Default There's still a few biting at Monroe

Headed out & was on the lake at day-break, the pic below is how it looked, a lot of heat lighting in the clouds, however, all seemed to disband quickly with sun up. Started catching a few right away with the 1st (8) all hitting the Specknator Slot right at 11", the pic on the table is the complete slot a 11",12",13"& 14". No particular color shinned, but the bigger one's came when the wind pick up just a tad. Thought I had a pretty good morning til' I ran into this guy in pic below.... that tells what he was doing fairly often & that would be pulling fish from his net. Shoot, when the wind picked up a little more, he decided to try another spot on his travels back to the ramp, left biting fish & texted he was nailing them on the other side of the lake as well. Know ya had fun Andy, good seeing you out there today. All in all she's heating up literally & figuratively....the FCC should have a good tourney next weekend....

Good seeing you too Jeff, had a super day dispite the heat. Left them biting, was getting too windy to troll without the boat crabbing really bad. The wind really turned them on they were jumping out of the water when hooked and tangling up lines. Left the lake with 46 on the clicker and 12 good fish in the cooler.

Jeff, would it be logical to think that Jessup's bite to be somewhat comparable to Monroe(in general) being a sister lake? Never fished it and was kicking the thought around for about a month now=since Pontoon Pappy blew the initial call to arms to Baconator = Gentlemen start your engines...thanks to ya Mike.

Doug...Jessup is probably one of the most different lakes you'll find along the St.John's run. For starters it doesn't have flow through it do to building projects many years ago. As many St. John's lakes have that "Tea" color stain, Jessup has a slight green color, which I believe is from years of run-off, especially from the Winter Springs ball fields. The fish are a silver/shad color because of this. The lake holds big numbers, but I've never caught 1 bigger than 14". It's shallow running 5-6ft everywhere, except for a 50yd area on the west side on Winter Springs side. For whatever reason the bite doesn't pick up til' January through March, there is rarely a "go too" area in open waters as I believe they are constantly on the move until the Jan.-March period when you can load up a bucket of minnows & catch 1 after another on the banks. It saddens me most that it's the closest lake from the house, Specknator can speak of the glory years, as I believe he grew up on the North side of the lake....bottom line, I could only recommend a February trip to appease a long travel for success & Harney's even a more agonizing story as it's depths & contours are much more like Monroe, but has been devastated since hurricane Irma...the reports are right, Monroe's the place to be for now...

Glad to see you had a good trip. I’m not far from a solo trip and will put some in the frozen if they cooperate. I know you got a few dinners.

Jeff is pretty much spot on about jessup.... Lots of run off all around and just about every ditch/Creek are fed by artesian wells that are still flowing and draining into the lake... These flowing wells were used during the farming years and a good many haven't been capped. It's good water but has a high sulpher content.... Not sure if that's detrimental to the lake or not. About the only open water fishing is a bay area around soldiers creek. Maybe when they start biting we can make a trip.... Just so you can say you fished jessup...
