Sounds like a great day Jim.... Thanks for sharing
I got up and out early this morning. At the ramp by 6:30 and was the third trailer in the lot. Launched and headed out with little trouble ( high water made it so I had to back into the water to float the boat ).
I worked my way past the 'no wake zone' and found the spot I wanted to try. I normally work the deep water in the center of the lake, but with reports saying 6 FOW that meant closer to shore. So with the reports and some advise in hand I pick a new location for me to try.
I was set with up with my rods and starting a slow drift by 7:30 so I sat back with coffee in hand to watch the sun rise. It didn't take long for a rod to go off. First fish of the day, and of the season ! Not a slab but a keeper. The wind did not take me where I want to be so I set out the trolling motor and set it to run around in a circle. I was in 9 ft of water so I started to move closer to shore.
I stayed in that area all morning but moved in and out from 5 ft to 9 ft of water. I got most action around the 7-8 ft depth. I had action on my bow rods, my long line and my floats.
By the time I headed in I had hooked a dozen fish, threw 2 back, lost 3 at the net ( I may need a longer net ) and brought 7 home for dinner. I saw only two other boats out and the lake was nice. I'll call that a good morning and a great first trip of the season.
Here's to many more to come and I hope to get to see some of you out there. If you see an old guy sitting on his motor and pulling bobbers, that would be me. Give a shout or a wave. I would love to hear how you are doing.

I will be out there Saturday, huntin em up.
A very good morning, I agree. I looked at the water as I went to appointments this morning and wondered if you had gone out. Glad to hear you found some.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
WTG, Jim. Good post.
Pass the "Sportsman Baton" on before you're gone, promote values for others to hunt and fish upon.
Congrats on a great trip
WTG! Jim.
The best thing my dad ever gave me was his love of fishing.
Were you using minnows? What is the difference in your bow lines, long line, and floats? Thanks!
Ya'll are making me itch!
