    Default Eating crappie eggs...

I was watching some crappie/cooking videos today and came across a couple where the fellow cooked the crappie eggs = says they're great.
I recall back when I was a youngun we ate mullet a lot (where I lived on the gulf coast north of Keaton Beach).
And, I recall we used to eat mullet roe. The yellow mullet roe cooked up like cornbread and I didn't care for that but,
the white mullet roe cooked up real good = I could deal with that.....

EDIT --> just looked up difference in white roe and yellow roe =>
If you live in an area such as Florida, where mullet are harvested privately and commercially, you will have the option of purchasing white or yellow roe during the mullet's spawning season. The white roe is not roe at all but milt, the male equivalent. It's also a delicacy, but is less rich than the yellow or true roe. Mullet roe consists of thousands of fine eggs contained in an oblong membrane, rather like a sausage in its casing. There are many ways to cook it, but pan-frying is traditional.

I just wonder why I've never considered cooking up any crappie roe, always toss em....
Think I'm gonna have to fry up some this coming season......

White/yellow mullet roe brings back some tasty memories. We used to have them every year. I loved those mullet smoked also.

    LOL Mike ! !
I had a comment about that too but figured I'd get shot down for it so just left it out etc, etc, etc .....

I was thinking that someone on here would say "Yeah we eat em all the time" but no one yet (recently).......

I'll keep some occasionally if I happen to not bust the sac when filleting. I think it's "ok" but the texture is kinda weird...like eating fried butter. Lol

Great, most fish too. Always fork- pierce the sac if you're breading/frying...it will pop/explode. Tried Mullet milt sacks this past Spring=not a fan.
