    Default ML South 3/11 WOW

Went out Sunday with my son and a friend in his gheenoe to try the cucumber island area, south-ish portion of the Mosquito Lagoon. I had not fished over there in years, didn't realize how bad the seagrass destruction was!!!! Water was murky. Grass was all gone, such a sad story as I remembered there being endless grass flats, it was terrible to see. I felt bad for my son as he'll probably never see it the way it used to be... But we fished on missing an opportunity at a redfish with his back out of the water (in about 4" of water). Caught about a dozen dink trout on artificials. My 6 yr old landed the biggest trout of the day a 16"er all by himself on a paddle tail plastic, that was pretty neat. Still a great time on the water but man it hurt to see the lagoon in that condition, next time i'll try the Chazz. Tight Lines.

Same thing with us as far as missing grass goes (Pole & Troll to east side & northward) .....
But, the water was crystal clear .....
Jeff (Speck Detector) wanted to head down there to "Whale Tail" but I wanted to show him some territory
    he hasn't visited before .........
    WTG on the trout ! ! ! !

Thanks, a yaker paddled past us and he said he caught 2 legal reds so there still out there, he said they were in real close to shore. It was pretty murky down south. At least it was clear north, need to learn the north area up by oak hill that way I can do the combo afternoon fishing trip/ shrimping trip. Not many ppl out at all launching from biolab so its probably been pretty bad. Whales tail used to be pretty good, dunno about now.

That is one happy feller showing off his big trout.

i haven't been over in a lot of years and from the sounds of it, I might as well stay home. Been every bit of 15 years for me and I remember it as beautiful and healthy, I want to keep those memories. I hope it isn't too far gone to recover. I heard on the radio last week that a brown algae bloom was in the beginning stages, and that isn't good this early in the year.
