Default Any pointers for the oklawaha river/lake griffin area?

Going to take the girls out this weekend for some crappie fishing with minnows/grass shrimp and could use a couple pointers to where the fish are being caught. Don't need secret honey hole info, just where the girls can catch a couple fish =)

Sorry it took so long to answer. Was fishin'.

Anyway, all I have to say is find the weeds (or at least the weed line). If you ain't hitting weeds, you're not gonna catch fish on Griffin. And now the bad news. The fishing on Griffin has been good for a long time, but it seems to have slowed down, big time. You can still catch them, but you have to move from spot to spot to find them. Keep moving, find slightly deeper water with nearby weeds (eel grass is good, reeds are good and even hydrilla, but I've not found them in the pads here recently), and hopefully you and the girls will catch them. Take pics and post them if you can. Good luck.

    Thanks for the reply Slab!

I've been fishing Griffin a looong time (going on 30 years), but been out of the area serving in the USAF for the last 12 years and a lot has changed in that time =) I'll hit up some weedlines and see what we get. Have you tried fishing the grass flats by treasure island? That used to hold a lot of fish back in the day, but the water levels are so low now its hard to find a deeper spot. I may try the mouth of the oklawaha river and see what I get.

I'm at the South end by the state park and get lazy so I don't often get that far up the lake. We went out today but it was way windy so could not fish where we wanted. That and the cold front really seem to have them turned off.

Wish I could help I live 5 min from Griffin went out last week not even 1 fish for me there was a FWO taking a survey said some people were catching, but not me. I have not had much luck in the last 8 times to Griffin. I really have not had much luck in any area I have fished in the last 4 months. I used to catch fish like a mad man when I lived in FL years ago, but not so much anymore. Oh well at least its fishing, and not working

are you using artificials? The only fish i've caught recently were on grass shrimp or the occasional minnow. I've never caught panfish on artificials =) However I can usually snag at least 1 or 2 decent bass with a Senko or football jig in the canals near the marshlands. Problem is my girls are bored to tears watching me fish and never really catch anything with shiners =/

I have only fished for specks using jigs and minnows its like the lake is void of fish, I know its not, but damn its slow, went to Lochloosa only a couple, went to Lake Rousseue for catfish where I used to clean up, catch one or two, Crystal River trout maybe 1 or two,
