    Default Spider Rig

Does anyone know of any good online articles/videos to help me get started with spider rigging. I built one out of pvc and rod holders from wal mart over the last two days and my fish finder comes in today. I plan on hitting the pads at lochloosa saturday morning and then heading out to the open water to give the spider rigging a go. I would prefer to tie my own rigs if anyone could point me in the right direction for what I would need. Thanks guys!

"Winning Crappie Secrets", by Tim Huffman..It teaches the slow trolling by Capps & Coleman...$9.50, at Grizzly Jig...Tim said there is an updated version in the works.. Our normal rod length has gotten longer . All of Tim's books are good

Not to put down any higher education, there's lots of good info out there. I started with a mix of rods like a 6', 8', 2 at 7', and a whopper of a 9'. Sloooow crawled near a piece of structure I knew of and it was like firecrackers going off. 3 fish hit within 10 seconds and I was hooked from then on. It's another tool in my box though. I longline, push and like everyone at one time or another, I single pole for the THUMP!! Vertical jigging is another that gives me the thousand yard stare when I think of it. Enjoy the learning curve and keep in mind that some of the gear is specific to the technique. It's easy to get a lot of gear that doesn't get used as much as you thought it would. Take it slow.......

If your talking about tying up a 2 hook rig, here goes the simplest. Start with this then you can improve with different setup's as you go. Take a spool of 10 pound line, tie tag end to a #7 swivel, go down about 6 in and tie a loop knot of about 4 in length, go down about 30 in and cut line from spool, slide on a 1/2 oz egg sinker, wrap line back through the sinker where sinker is about 18 inches from top loop, wrap it 5 times, cut tag of wher it is 8 inches from sinker. Tie on a small DuoLock snap. Put on a jig or minnow hook. On top loop do same thing just push loop through hook eye and your ready to go. You can make them as simple or as complicated as you want.
