    Default Kenansville - Lake Marian

I have a cousin who recently bought a home in Kenansville a few blocks from Lake Marian. He is wanting me to come down for a few days and I am thinking of taking my boat down a fish a few times while I am there in early March. I have zero knowledge of this lake so any suggestions or advise would be helpful and appreciated.

Have fished Lk. Marian during my bass tournament days, never fished for crappie there. From what I have heard it is a great crappie fishery, known more for numbers of fish not necessarily size.
Not sure if it's still open, but there was a dinner in Kenansville that served one heck of a bowl of heart of palm soup.

The FWC biologist that were up at Crescent a few years back that measured crappie ear bone for age of fish said the oldest crappie they ever recorded in Florida was in that lake (14 yrs old) & it's land locked with it's fair share of local pressure, found that amazing...fished it a couple times over the years & was great for trolling = no weeds or structure to hang up on...it does have a good row of reeds along the undeveloped sides & in March that would be a good area to target...good luck !
    crappie down !

Fallsburg is located in Lawrence County in N.E. Kentucky. Our county seat is Louisa. I live 25 miles south of Ashland. Ky. It is 13 miles from my house to the main boat ramp on Yatesville Lake.

Thanks for info. I am from Lexington, but have traveled over most of Ky, but never
came onto Fallsburg. Small population? Been to Louisa.

I fished the lake for several years . We stayed all weekend . Cabin rental rates were good. This aloud us to put the time to scout where the fish were biting. Ramp was easy and the lake produced good fish quantities. It is timing for the most part. We would call and check at the bait store and get reports before we decided to go over, there are several areas of the lake are very good . The cove , to the left as you leave out of the ramp and there is a shallow point halfway down the lake headed west on the north side , also down past that section on the south side is a point that sticks out with good water depth . We did really well there on more than one occassion. Purchase a lake map . You will see what I am talking about. Averaged in the upper 30 count on the Catch. Just a laid back place to fish and little amount of boat traffic.
Hell one morning we had a float plane come in and land and take off on some practice runs . Pretty cool to see .
sorry for the long winded message but just wanted give my opinion. Hope you do well.

Joe, Fallsburg is now just a wide spot in the road. A century ago there was a large grist mill on Blaine Creek at the falls and it was a busy place. Oneatatime thanks for the good info. Speaking of the cabins there, are they clean and reasonably maintained? Did you fish with jigs only or did you use any minnows? If you used minnows do they sell bait there?
