Dont waste money on cheap gear. Most people waste enough twice to have started out with good equipment! If you don't like it you can sell it. Warning! Once the Spider bites- its over!

Read some horror stories from a few years ago talking 30-90 days turnaround time.

Fished a bit (though blind) Saturday afternoon on Lake Marion, wind was screaming, surely drifting much too fast even with a drift sock, couldn't tell my speed without the GPS. Nothing.

Decided to go to Medard Reservoir in Plant City to see if maybe we could get lucky on a sunshine bass or specks drifting the open water and throwing a rattle trap. Wind was fine early, started blowing by 10:00. Ended up catching a 5-6lb catfish is all.

Calling Lowrance today, if turn around time looks to be pretty long, I may just go ahead and pull the trigger on a Helix that I'm going to be using on the pontoon and bass boat.
my personal experience with lowrance is top quality customer service and a no questions asked return policy. dropped my hds7 gen2 last year when it was out of warranty. even though it was my own fault and not covered under warranty, i had a new, free unit with new transducer and all the power cords two days after i called them ..... free shipping. i am a believer in lowrance!!!!

Lowrance asked me to send in the unit for bench testing, they don't repair them, so they gave me the option of a Hook 4 for free or upgrading to the hook 5 for $87, hook 7 for $112, or the Elite 5 ti for $112 (but the TotalScan transducer is $300 on top if I want the SI). Told me 7-10 days from the time they receive it.

Think I'm going to keep it the same, since this boat doesn't get fished as hard as the other boats will. Mainly for river running and getting back in places where only mudboats and airboats can get.
