You could put in at Harney Pond canal. Thats a good bit paddling to Dyess ditch. Im sure there is Gators in there bigger than your kayak so be carefull.
I visit South Florida regularly around the holidays. I purchased a kayak this year and am planning to take it. Okeechobee is not far from where I stay (within couple of hours). Some friends of mine and I used to crappie fish every February from Lakeport through Dyess Ditch. If I remember right, that was a long run to the lake. Is there any reasonable kayak access to the lake for crappie fishing? Is it worth trying to fish the Big O for crappie in December?
Thank you in advance

I would be far more concerned about the Blue Algae that is giving people serious skin infections than the gators. Especially in a kayak where your bound to get wet. Be careful in that cocktail they have created in the south end.
I have heard nothing of blue algae. It doesn't affect the fish? Are the fish still edible??
