Hydrilla treatment scheduled for Orlando’s Lake Lawne
Lake Lawne in Orlando is scheduled to undergo hydrilla treatment on Friday, Feb. 19, by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
The FWC’s Invasive Plant Management Section will treat the entire lake for the purpose of managing hydrilla. Hydrilla is an invasive, exotic aquatic plant spread easily by boats throughout the state’s lakes and rivers. It clogs waterways, making recreational activities difficult or impossible and chokes out beneficial native plants. Managing and treating it is necessary for the health of Florida’s waters.
The FWC will treat the hydrilla with herbicides approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for use in lakes. There are no restrictions for fishing, swimming or irrigation.
For questions about this treatment, contact Kristine Campbell, FWC invasive plant management biologist, at 407-858-6170.
