    Default New To Jacksonville, FL

Greetings all. I am active duty Navy and just transferred to the Jacksonville area. Am hoping someone can give me some good fresh water fishing spots. I know you will not share your honey holes, but I am just seeking the best waters ways. There are tons of salt water around, but I prefer the challenge of fresh water crappie and bass. Now if you want to share a sweet honey hole or two, I will not turn that down.(LOL) Thanks in advance.

    Thumbs up

You have moved to a good location living in Jax. There are a few great lakes for speck fishing within 30 minutes to an hour away. Doctor's Lake which has a heavy saline content but does have blugill and shellcracker under and around the docks, not sure about specks there. Black's Creek and the infamous CRESCENT LAKE. All of the afore mentioned are a part of the St. Johns River system. Also close by are Lakes Sante Fe, Newnan's and Lochloosa. The Florida Crappie Club (FCC) hosts tournaments at these and other lakes throughout the state. You are welcome to attend. I hope this helps you get started. Welcome and thank you for your service!

If you can get in touch with "Southern Young Gun" probably on the South Carolina board. He is a Sailor also and used to live around Jacksonville area. He caught a lot of Crappie in that area and would probably give a fellow serviceman some great pointers. May have changed his handle to T. C.

I believe there is a few Navy men on here from Middleberg. TC helped them so i am sure they got some sweet spots. I reckon they will be along at some point and give ya some pointers. Mostly thank for your service and the sacrifices you and your family make for you to defend our great nation.

I have been gone from the area from over a year but I would focus on Crescent (it's a sure bet), newnans, loochloosa, and orange depending on the water level. Black creek is closer but it's not very good, I have caught fish there regularly but very rarely catch a nice mess. Bets advice is hire a guide who knows northeast FL and cut your learning curve down a lot. Jeff brown or Daryl Cole is who you need to hook up with.

Good areas in the St. Johns river, I'm sure southern young guns can report on that, and again Thanks for your service.
