Wow, I wonder how many pounds of lead we could get off the logs if the lake was low like this photo?

I would give anything to have just one more controlled drawdown like that. When that water would come back it was unbelievable. I remember the standing timber in front of Blount Creek in 38 foot water. Now boats run WOT through that forest. In the winter we would tie up to a tree on that drop off and drop minnows straight down by boat on ultralights and seemed like you fought those fish up forever. Back then you could keep 50 a person. Hal Flies were the bait. Red head silver body or Christmas tree. Minnkota come out with that first Powerdrive with autopilot and I was never the same. Man that lake was beautiful back then. They are so many new houses and two of the old fish camps have deteriorated. The dam has changed. Mr. Mac Gainey is gone and I tear up every time I think of Mr. Bob being gone. I picked up so much from those two. Along with Mr. Jesse Bowman who was the wisest crappie fisherman I ever met. Mr. Gainey started me trolling and Mr. Jesse taught me the logistics of longlining. Jesse also taught me how to spider rig or push and how to shoot docks. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Usually I wait till September cooler nights and less humid days to start back crappie fishing down there but I may go ahead and make the trip. Up until 8 years ago I used to fish year round down there and 3 days a week.

One thing they can't take from us is memories.

Mack Gainey also said the Crappie fishing always picked up after a drawdown. I think the old picture of the lake drawn down is still on the wall down at Talquin Lodge.
