    Default Fishing report Lakeland Fl

Managed to get 8 keepers, threw back 6 small ones. Been tough ( for me ) last 3 weeks, Hot and humid, bluebird skies and no wind to speak of.

Today water temp was 84, about 9am had a little chop on the water, some clouds rolled in, started getting a little action.

Still hangin' in there for an old timer.

I also had a bit of excitement for about 10 minutes. I thought I had a snag, as there was brush in the area I was fishing. So instead of breaking my 12' rod, I shut off the trolling motor and started to pull on the 6# test line with my hands. Well! to my surprise, it started pulling back! So I wound up the slack, figured I had a big largemouth, or ?? Man, this thing put quite a bend in my rod, I would gain on the line , then back out it would go! Finally got to see what I had, wasn't a fish at all, was a good sized soft shell turtle ( estimate 16' in diameter). I had caught him or her in the neck and it was NOT happy. Ended up cutting the line right next to the jig, as I'm pretty sure it wanted a bite out of me! I was quite surprised my rod and line, held up to the fight.
